Frequently Asked Questions about Dermal Fillers
What are fillers made of?
There are numerous cosmetic fillers on the market today. The ones used at Smooth
Contours contain hyaluronic acid. This is a natural sugar that is found in the skin.
Its function within the skin is to maintain volume and pliability. The hyaluronic acid
combines with molecules of water to increase in size, therefore ‘filling’ the line in
the face.
Is it safe?
Hyaluronic acid is fully biodegradable which means that as the gel breaks down,
it turns
into water and carbon dioxide and disappears unnoticed from your body.
It is a non animal
product that does not require skin testing.
What happens during treatment?
After assessment and pre treatment photographs, the filler will be injected into the
site using
small fine needles. This will take anything from 15 – 45 minutes depending
on the areas treated.
Which areas can be treated?
The main areas that benefit from dermal fillers are the nasolabial lines, the lips, the
corners
of the mouth and the marionette lines that run from the mouth down the chin.
Does it hurt?
Most treatments are quick and simple and produce minimal discomfort. Most clients
compare
the sensation to that of an insect bite. However some areas that are
naturally sensitive do
require anaesthesia in the form of cream or injection if preferred.
How long will the treatment last?
The results can last 6-9 months but everyone is different.
What are the side effects?
Immediately after treatment there maybe slight redness swelling and tenderness in the
treated
area. This especially in the lips and so the end result is not visible straight away.
These minor
inconveniences are temporary and should disappear within a few days.
Will I have a ‘trout pout?
NO! Trout pouts are produced by permanent fillers and over zealous administration of temporary
fillers. At Smooth Contours we believe it is better to be cautious and
then add to the area if
necessary when you come for your two week check.
This service is free.
Is there an age barrier to treatment?
Dermal fillers are thought to be safe to use in men and women between the ages
of 18 and 65.
Is there any reason why I cannot have treatment?
There are very few contraindications to dermal fillers but at your initial consultation this can
be discussed
